Aeronautics in America Goals:
Program Description, General Goals and Objectives

Overall Project Goals:
The Aeronautics In America project is designed to provide NASA Enterprise School middle school students, teachers, parents, grandparents and friends an extraordinary opportunity to come together and share their vision of how Aeronautics impacts their lives today and in the future.

Project Goal A:   Working with NASA Aeronautics Enterprise mentors they will learn the impacts Aeronautic technologies have had on U.S. commerce, transportation and science.   Using this knowledge they will form a vision of the future and learn about the roles they may fill as the scientists and engineers in the future.

Project Goal B: They will share their vision for the 21 st Century with their classmates, community and the nation in the form of a Skyways of Tomorrow essay and accompanying poster.     NASA mentors and San Francisco Art Institute Students will provide graphic arts and technical guidance.

Project Goal C:   The National Space Grant's Aeronautics Technology Working Group students will formulate age appropriate Aeronautics lessons for incorporation into the back of the Poster.

Project Goal D:   Posters identified to have special merit will be published for use by students throughout the nation.

Learning and Student Development Goals:
The overall focus is a program to build a vision of the future for America's children, to teach them pride in their country as they learn civics, history, reading, writing and social studies. This helps assure that the current generation of children will learn the value and impact of aerospace technology in their lives and their community.   With this new perspective the Aeronautics in America program helps children foster a positive attitude toward their own math and science studies helping to motivate their participation in the future high technology workforce.

Project Goal E:   Students will talk to NASA Aeronautics leaders about what their dreams are for the United States in ten and twenty years.   This can be readily accomplished by working with NASA and Space Grant mentors.   The dialog created will be valuable to both the children and the mentors.

Project Goal F:   Students will integrate writing, art and communications skills into developing a Skyways of Tomorrow Poster with an accompanying narrative essay.

Project Goal G:   Students will learn team, communications and leadership skills by working together on every element of this project.

Outreach and Integration Goals:
The AERO Team will formulate innovative approaches and utilize emerging technologies resulting in a United States mentored e-learning capability.   Systems will be developed through increasing levels of human capital, real capital and technology investments.

Program Goal H:   As the project grows strategic partnerships of Government-Academia and industry will be formed to address the technologies identified, seek industry investment matching, and engage academia from throughout the United States.

Program Goal I:   University students will be incorporated into the program at all levels using the NASA Space Grant student-mentor model, including science, engineering, operations, business development, graphic arts, communications, public outreach and education outreach.

Program Goal J:   The National Space Grant College and Fellowship program and its over 800 affiliated partners will be engaged to participate in public outreach, research and education.
