The Skyways of Tomorrow "Virtual Poster"

Welcome to the Aeronautics in America (AIA) Project's Skyways of Tomorrow Virtual Poster. A virtual poster is a dynamic poster with three parts from which to enjoy and learn. Each of these parts has its own classroom application. The theme of this virtual poster is "Skyways of Tomorrow" and honors the bright future of aeronautics in America. The components include:

The Front of the Poster Component

The front of the poster has been designed by a group of students and their teacher, with assistance from the San Francisco Art Institute. The visual components on the front of the poster represent various aspects of the future of Aviation in America. Can you find the meaning in what elements they selected? This part of the virtual poster is also of course to display and enjoy.

The Back of the Poster Component

The back of the poster, represented in these nine black and white panels, is a set of engaging activities and discussion topics that have been carefully selected for use in a typical classroom. Each of the activities engages students in some thoughtful way in learning about aeronautics, including the science, future, and people of this exciting profession.

The Virtual Poster Component

Unlike many posters which you may have seen, this one also has a "virtual poster" component, which is web-based, updated regularly, and accessible from the AIA website. In this component you will find printable versions of each panel from the back of the poster along with many additional activities and support documents that link to each panel. Various additional "fronts" of the poster will also be available, as they are designed by other student groups, and selected for virtual display through the website. There are also video clips of classes using the activities, and educators and scientists explaining various concepts. Most importantly, there is also a place for YOU to contribute to the discussion, where teachers and students can post their own ideas and activities, ask questions, or help answer someone else's question.
